Richard Hearn, Captain

Richard Hearn is from a multi-generational, highly accomplished powerboat racing family. Starting his racing career at the age of 9 years old in Stock Outboard Racing, he has built an impressive resume over the past 30+ years working his way through the various circuits.

As a driver, Richard has won two National Titles in Stock Outboard and five National Titles and 6 World Championships in tunnel boat racing.  In 1994, he was inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions with OPC.  Richard also represented Mercury Marine, winning the 24 hr race in Rouen, France twice and finished on the podium four times.

In 2015, Richard retired as a driver to focus on growing Hearn Motorsports, L.L.C.  In his rookie season in 2016, his team was a top contender and ended the season with three world records and a National Championship title in the 5 liter Inboard class.  These accomplishments, once again, landed him an induction into the APBA Hall of Champions; this time, as an owner.

Richard has been instrumental in helping young drivers fulfill their passion for power boat racing.  When APBA was in need of all new Junior propellers, he quickly stepped up, purchased and donated them.  He also  founded the "Steve Hearn J Class Program"who's purpose is to get kids involved in racing.

Richard currently lives in Oakwood, OH, with his wife Susan and daughter, Lauren.  Son, Grant just entered his Freshman year at High Point University in High Point, NC. In his rare downtime, he enjoys spending time at their family lake home in Syracuse, IN.
